Simple Adblock is intended to be easy to configure, so you only need to specify your country and then the ad blocking filters are selected for you and downloaded automatically.
That might be sufficient for most users, but some still like to provide their own filters. In time we would like to add an easy way to accommodate this, but until then we have provided a temporary solution.
A quick note: This is a temporary solution – it is only recommended for tech savvy users, and it is definitely not in the spirit of Simple Adblock
Simple Adblock creates a directory, where all settings and filter files are maintained. It is created within the hidden Application Data folder.
Depending on your windows version, it is located in different locations:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User name]\Application Data\Simple Adblock
Vista: C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\LocalLow\Simple Adblock
Windows 7: C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\LocalLow\Simple Adblock
An easy way to access the folder is to type the following path in Explorers address bar:
XP: %appdata%\Simple Adblock
Vista and Windows 7: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Simple Adblock
All files except your personal filter file are maintained by simple-adblock and should not be altered. You should only change the file: filter_personal.txt, where you can define your own filters. After you have made your changes, you need to restart Internet Explorer to reload the filters.
In your personal filter file you can add your own filter rules. For the changes to take effect, you need to open a new tab or window (note in IE 6 and IE 7 you need to open a new window)
The filter rules are identical to the format defined by adblockplus, hence you can copy your own filter list created with Adblockplus to this file. The filter format is defined in: http://adblockplus.org/en/filters
